Cornwall Arts Centre Trust and Carn to Cove approached Near-ta Theatre in May 2012 about delivering a rehearsed reading for the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site funded project ‘Adventurers in Music’ as part of the Olympic Torch celebrations in Liskeard. Following this day of work on the project, Near-ta Theatre, working alongside Nix Wood of Undertow Theatre, and with Carn to Cove and Cornwall Arts Centre Trust, set about exploring how the show could be developed into live, site-specific performances at mining heritage sites across Cornwall, and recording a digital legacy of the script written by Jane Pugh and original score composed by Simon Dobson.
Near-ta Theatre set about liasing with key stakeholders and partners, including the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, brass bands and musicians from across Cornwall, museum and heritage organisations, and writing a funding bid to the Arts Council, which was successful.
The project was delivered in June 2013, featuring live performance and brass music and workshops in five mining heritage sites across Cornwall, and recording a digital legacy for radio, which is being delivered in early 2015.
